Right Track evaluation

Shelby and Avery had their evaluation by a county service program. Over all it went well, but of course there had to be 'downsides' to it as well.

They girls were evaluated at their adjusted age of 16 months 21 days rather than their "real" age of 17 months 25 days. This may not seem like a big deal but had the girls been measured by the 18 month 'chart' they wouldn't have come even close to passing and by going by the 16 month chart they passed and exceeded alot of the stuff. Even the 'problem' areas were above 'worry' zone. It is amazing to see the difference that 2 weeks can make in the developement of a child. Delainey was pre-term as well, but did not have NICU time and was 2 weeks "later" than Shelby and Avery. She met milestones faster, gained weight/height faster... Shelby and Avery are so different. Seeing them in their every day struggles of their prematurity (which over all are nothing compared to some) just breaks my heart. It makes me feel like "I" did something wrong. More often then not when a child is born early there is no 'reason' for it...but in the girls' case it was my fault... my body failed me... my body failed them... If only I hadn't gotten sick my girls would have been full term and would not be struggling with things like walking, talking, climbing etc..... Seeing them struggle makes me all the more commited to make certain that their brother/sister doesn't have to go through the struggles they do.....

Avery is doing wonderfully with speech, problem solving, motor etc. She was in the 100% range in all of them. The only 'concern' for her is a "twin" thing in which she is the "leader" twin. Shelby expects Avery to help her solve some issues that she should be doing herself. An example of this tonight was when Avery had already done the task of using a spoon to get a block out from under the couch and Shelby was struggling with getting the spoon under the couch, Shelby babbled something to Avery and Avery walked over, got the spoon from Shelby and did the task for her and then handed the items back to Shelby. This isn't even a "wrong" thing it is just something the lady pointed out could be a problem later if Shelby doesn't learn to exert herself.... as Chad and I saw it --- Shelby asked her sister for help and got it, but that of course is the parent take on it. Shelby really only had an 'issue" with the problem solving --story from bove.... Aside from that the girls did really well.

We will be re-evaluated in 6-9 months. Six months puts us into December and the lady said that we might as well push it off a bit so that the new baby can be evaluated as well.
