Weigh in Wednesday SFG Week 5

Shrink for Good with the Sisterhood!

Well it is Wednesday which means that it is weigh in day...and well I am up 2.8lbs. This makes me angry... I hate it when I bust my ass and just because I am a girl each month regardless of how hard I work I still gain weight once a month... total bull crap if you ask me.... but what can I say right other than THIS SUCKS!!

Better luck next week to me. So here are my current 'standings'. I started this challenge at 245.6 and am right now at 240.8, which puts me at a 4.8 loss which means my 5# button has had to leave my page which makes me super mad... but what can I do right.

Here is next week! Good luck everyone!

Totally Ticks me Off Tuesday

YAY it's Tuesday :) I love Tuesdays almost as much as I love Mondays...well except for yesterday...yesterday was evil... lol

You know what really ticks me off?? Staff Development Days for school... all three of my school aged children didn't have school yesterday because of a "staff development day"... when I asked one of my children's teachers what exactly that meant... her response "It is kind of a teacher catch up day".... WTF??? A catch up day already?!?!? We have only been going to school for a stinking month...what is there to be caught up on... I mean seriously..

Another things that ticks me off... runny noses. One of my kids is constantly being sent home for having a runny nose... and now with the whole swine flu scare it is even worse... I walked her into the building at school today to be told to take her home... IT IS HER ALLERGIES!!! Now I get to take my otherwise healthy child to the doctor where she will catch god knows what just so she can go back to school... give me a freaking break

And last but not least.... the thing that has really been ticking me off... the fact that my washer and dryer are NEVER done at the same time. My dryer is almost always done before my washing machine and not just by a few minutes but by like 15 minutes at least....argh!

Have a happy week everyone :)

Fall TV

With fall also comes new shows and series on TV, normally I don't get to addicted to any of these shows because quite frankly I don't like to 'waste' the time I have after the kids go to bed to watch the tv shows that I have dvrd... but there are always some exceptions like "Drop Dead Diva" and "Army Wives".
The other night while I was flipping through our tv stations (yes, we have hundreds of tv channels and I was still channel surfing) I happened upon a new program on Wetv. This network would hands down be called a 'chick channel' by my husband, but there was this marathon of these new series on and I couldn't pull myself away from it. It is called "Adoption Diaries". I have been watching different adoption and birth shows since far before I was a mom, and the one that I most recently watched was called "Adoption Stories". But Adoption Diaries are different than the other shows that I have watched in the past because this show shows/follows the process of an Open Adoption. I think it is amazing.
We know several friends/family members who have gone through (or are going through) different types of adoption and it was amazing to see the way that one more area of this process works. I found myself crying along with both the adoptive and birth families as I watched these episodes because frankly... you can SEE their emotion... Hands down and amazing new program... MUST WATCH TV if you ask me :)

"Not me" Monday...

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

Ugg...what a week...

I most certainly did not go to a doctor appointment this week in hopes that I would come home with a solution to a problem when it all actuality I came home even more confused and with an even bigger problem... nope most certainly not me.

I most certainly did not think about not paying the bills this month and just take a few girls friends on an all expenses paid weekend away... nope, not me... (please note that I stated that I did not THINK about doing this... I most certainly would never actually do something this irrational or silly)...

I most certainly did not use a rolled up piece of paper as a funnel in my kitchen the other day so that I can put chocolate milk powder into the 1/2 empty milk jug so I wouldn't have to dirty an additional container.

That's it for this not me Monday... because I most certainly am not going to go and stick a movie into the DVD player for my children while I try to recoup from having more children at my house this weekend then my husband and I had hands and feet... Nope... most certainly NOT ME

There is no pickled herring in heaven....

Pickled herring was an all time favorite of my grandfather's. You could ALWAYS find it in my grandparents' fridge, just as you could always find peanut butter mixed with honey in the cupboard. It was never really a favorite of mine... I mean it was ok, and if it was there I'd stab a piece or two ( because you know you have to eat it right out of the jar with a toothpick right? You can't like actually put it on your plate or anything like that... that would just be silly)... but it was certainly not something that I would seek out...
Well that was until after my grandfather passed away... now I can't get enough of that nasty little fish... it is ridonculous (hee hee)... I could eat it all day long... it grosses my husband completely out... but to me it is good all of a sudden. I don't know if it is some subconsious thing to feel closer to my grandfather or what... but YUM... so like I told Chad after he caught me 'seeking' another piece out of the jar yesterday... "There isn't pickled herring in heaven, this is the 'cheap' stuff and you KNOW he is eating steak"... :)

Calling all my buddies for a movie night...

We totally need to go see this movie... And I have to ask my 'girlfriends' to go because after the last pick of movie I made Chad go to he has been given a pass on ANY movie I pick until the new Harry Potter comes out... ;)

Moving...

This is a video that was presented at the Autism Speaks Convention a few days ago...

Many people ask when we tell them about Shelby and her SPD if she is Autistic... she is not, but that doesn't mean that we don't relate to others in the autism community. We have banned with the Autism community because they (like us) struggle for people to understand their child and their 'specialness'. Many people who are on the autism spectrum have sensory issues, and in fact having sensory issues diagnosed is often one of the first steps in getting a diagnosis of a spectrum disorder.... I am certainly not an expect nor will I ever claim to be... but I am a MOTHER of a SENSATIONAL child and I will be her advocate and the advocate of any other child who like her, struggles with life because she doesn't fit in YOUR box...

Weigh in Wednesday SFG Week 4

Shrink for Good with the Sisterhood!
Today is weigh in day so if you have joined the challenge then get in motion and get signed up... if not there is still plenty of time to get signed up over at the Sisterhood... the more the merrier.
As for me this week, all I can say is GOOD BYE 240s... yep.. I finally got under 240lbs. My weight this morning was 238 lbs. That is a loss of 3.8 lbs this week and a total loss of 7.6 lbs for the challenge so far. That is like 3% body mass loss *I think I did the math right*...
My goals this week are the same as last:
  • Stay on track with exercise
  • journal food and stick to my points
  • water water and more water
  • no late night snacks

Good luck everyone! I know you can do it!!!

Totally Ticks Me Off Tuesday

**warning...swearing, bitching and moaning ahead...read following post at your own risk and please do not read out loud with children present... there is cursing and some things I say just aren't very 'motherly'....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED**
Ok, so since I have been fairly quite since last week *hee hee* I thought I'd let it rip today :) I tried the whole 'calm' and senseless Ticks Me off Tuesday but I really didn't get the relief and fun from it that I normally do so this week we are back at it :) Enjoy!
You know what totally ticks me off??? Guilt. Even when I KNOW that my actions/words etc had nothing to do with the situation going wrong, not as expected etc I some how have a way of blaming myself for everything... this is just an example and certainly not the only case of it but I recently placed an order for shirts for my MOMS Club group... well apparently some how the order got mixed up or something because rather than having the pocket sized logo that we all thought we were going to be getting we ended up having the logo take up the entire front of the shirt... This was not my fault, and honestly it probably isn't even the fault of the printer because it is a simple miscommunication between many people etc. The printer is willing to make it right and things will go well etc. But for some reason I feel horrible about the entire situation... it leaves a nasty feeling in my stomach and in my heart but like I said... I know this isn't my fault but someone I am trying to blame myself for it.
Another thing that ticks me off?? How people can complain about something not being 'right' but not willing to do a dang thing to fix it -- this also feeds into my previous complaint--.
...we recently (as a household) agreed to work on a certain situation as a team and everyone would take more resposiblity for this task... umm apparently I am the only one who remembered this conversation because once again it is all back to me :) YAY ME...
And last but certainly not least... I was presented with an AMAZING career oppurtunity this past week... I was so exited about it and all the possiblities that it would hold for me... that is right up until I talked to family... Thanks for the support ... Wow the love was just radiating... oh and did I mention that when I didn't do as the family expected and bow to their wishes and still submitted my resume I most certainly did not enjoy watching them all sweat about how things would possibly change... (ok so since I missed not me Monday this last paragraph really is a combo )... heee

Weigh in Wednesday SFG Week 3

Shrink for Good with the Sisterhood!
As you know, it is Wednesday and there for it is also weigh in day for the Shrink For Good project/challenge that is going on over at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans. While this is week 3 of the challenge you have got to know that the more the merrier is certainly the philosophy of this group so if you are up for losing weight and sharing the wealth for the hungry people in our country that be sure to stop over at the sisterhood to check it out.

The scale this morning read 241.4, which means that I am down a pound from last week and 4.2lbs for the challenge. I know that a pound certainly doesn’t seem like a lot but honestly I really think that my slow and steady for this challenge is the way for me to win this race (my personal race that is)… I have heard time and time again that it is better and healthier to lose weight at a slow and steady pace because you have a better chance of keeping it off long term, and that is certainly my goal. I want to lose for good…not because of the weight watchers program challenge but for myself too.

My goals for this week are:
· Back on track with exercise
· Journal my food and stick to my points
· Water water and more water
· No more snacks after 8pm

Those are good for me this week …let's see if I can meet these goals and if I can then I will add more next week.

Totally Ticks Me off Tuesday

**warning...swearing, bitching and moaning ahead...read following post at your own risk and please do not read out loud with children present... there is cursing and some things I say just aren't very 'motherly'....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED**
After yesterdays blog about "Not Me Monday" people are probably thinking that this message is going to be a a doozy... but sadly it is not.
You know what really ticks me off... LAUNDRY
I can actually say that I hate laundry... it is a never ending and daunting task that never goes away no matter how much effort and time you put into it.
And that is it for my Totally Ticks Me off Tuesday...

Please help

Yesterday morning a friend of mine woke to find one of their family cats missing. Apparently he has snuck out in the night... He is 15 pounds, and answers to the name of Pilchard. He is very missed...

If you see this cat please please contact me 701-391-1060.

Thank you
Kristin

Accountability...

The dictionary defines accountability as this:
The state of being accountable; liability to be called on to render an account; the obligation to bear the consequences for failure to perform as expected; accountableness.

It seems that I have been struggling with this definition in a lot of aspects of my life (personal and professional--well as professional as a SAHM can be).

You are probably wondering what exactly my previous paragraph has to do with the term of accountability, but trust me…eventually I will get to the point that this entire message will make sense.

I make my 5 year old be accountable for her actions when she hurts a friend’s feelings, even when that friend isn’t respecting her, I make my 3 year old twins be accountable for their actions when they are fighting with each other, I even make my 1 year old be accountable for his own actions when he isn’t following the rules of our house with ‘natural consequences’.

I myself have had to be held accountable for my actions good or bad over the past week several times alone. For example, I didn’t spend enough time on my math homework; in fact I waited until the last day before the exam to even do most of it… I had to be held accountable for my actions… the accountability came in the form of the grade I received… 30/50 which is a 60%, which for this teacher is a D. I am the one who has to be accountable for that…

Awhile ago I wasn’t paying much attention to something one of my children were doing and because of my lack of parenting at that moment, and one of my children was injured by a sibling… and even though the sibling is the one who hurt said child – and had their own consequences for her actions - - at the end of the day it was me who was really accountable for the entire situation.

One of our children has some things that require we look fully at a situation before we change things up on them... there are days that I am better with this and there are days that I want to scream from the mountain top that I just want for that child to be ‘normal’ and that I am tired of having to run my life around the schedule that my child feels is right for our family…and therefore I do what I want and make this child go along with it… this child will meltdown, not listen etc the entire time that things aren’t going the way they should. I get frustrated, sometimes even angry… but you know what… I have to be accountable for the choice I made. I made the choice to change things up on a child who needs things to be in order and on schedule – I often find myself wondering just what God was thinking when he paired this amazing child with me… I mean come on... I am not the most organized, scheduled person in the world, I love changing my plans at a drop of a hat and just being free… Did he not fully understand the damage that I would inflict on this child by not fully understanding her needs and putting them first always—anyways back to my point, when I change things up on the precious little child and she suffers consequences for my actions it really is me who should be accountable not her..

Isn’t it interesting that as parents we require that our children be accountable for their actions…but as adults we are rarely accountable for our own. How often do you ‘see’ an adult who has cut someone off in traffic apologize to the person who they cut off? How often do you see an adult apologize for hurting another person’s feelings without at least some part of an excuse for their actions other than just being accountable?

And what I have recently found enough more interesting is that I accept more accountability from my children than I do my friends and adult family members. I expect for my children to be responsible for their actions without excuse… but when it comes to my friends and family I am the first one to make excuses for their behavior and somehow even turn their actions into being my fault.

After talking to someone today it became very clear to me… I can only be accountable for myself and my own actions. I cannot continue to try to accept accountability for other people’s actions…even when their directly affect me. I already knew this…but for some reason hearing if from this other person made it seem more real… but like my grandfather always used to tell me “Kristin…no one but you can make you happy… and if you don’t make yourself happy first…you will never be happy”…

Ok… so maybe this post ended up not making any sense such as I said that it would, but thankfully it is my blog and I can say what I want J

LOVING...

MY NEW NOTE PAD FROM THE TARGET DOLLAR SECTION....

Not Me Monday...

I don’t know about you but I LOVE Mondays (almost as much as Tuesdays hee hee)… but you all already know why I love my Mondays and it isn’t because the other adults in my house go back to work and I can finally run the house the way that I want it without them all getting the way (Ok… so maybe I do LOVE Mondays because of that….but I also LOVE Mondays because of the awesome event that McKMama created known as “Not Me Monday”… who doesn’t want to confess to the world the things that they did most certainly did not do…

If you want to join in on the fun, make certain that you pop over to MckMama’s Blog and join in all the fun.

This week has been a busy one with activities for the children, class load for myself, helping to organize a picnic with my MOMS Club group.

I most certainly did did not finally get fed up with the piles of laundry that were previously washed, folded and sorted for a rummage sale that my children completely trashed by throwing them around the family room while being supervised by an responsible adult while I was at school and just toss them into garbage bags and drop them off at a local good will... nope... not me, because I am all about making certain that I can re-coop a bit of money on the clothes that my children wear so I can purchase new ones...

You all know me... I am cool as a cucumber and am always completely insane forgetting about everything and anything up until the last minute so you know that I most certainly did not forget to take out the ground beef for the sloppy joe's that I had volunteered to bring to the said picnic... nope.. most certainly not me because as you know I am always completely insane in control.

And since I am always in complete control of my life and the situations that I find myself in, I most certain left the picnic feeling like completely crap because of a few things some people said and didn't have the nerve to tell them that not only did they really hurt my feelings but that I too deal with the exact same things in my own house and I most didn't write up a letter and want to turn in my resignation as the club's president in the most amazing mood completely glad that I was able to spend time with my amazing friends...

And last because of my shitty awesome attitude after leaving the picnic, my husband and I most certainly not get into a yelling match mild mannered discussion on how I let people treat me like crap... and because this conversation didn't happen, I most certainly did not say to my husband in front of our children that he treats me the same way every day... Nope... most certainly not at our house because as I said, this conversation most certainly did not take place...

And last but not least... I most certainly did not just put the grandparents' day cards that I bought weeks ago in the mail today because I had misplaced them... nope most certainly NOT Me... because as I said, I am always on the ball and in charge of my hellish perfect life...

Bet those of you who frequent my blog are wondering what the heck is in store of "Totally ticks me off Tuesday" if Not Me Monday was this great... Muuuuuahhhhahhhhh ;)

Weigh in Wednesday SFG Week 2

Shrink for Good with the Sisterhood!

Today was/is weigh in day... the scale read 242.4 this morning which is a loss of 1.2lbs since last week Wednesday (not bad but not good either if you ask me)... I have lost a total of 3.2lbs for the challenge at this point so I will try not to complain to much... I have only myself to blame as I haven't been very dedicated this past week... I am very much an emotional eater and the emotions have been full boar at this house this past week... lots to think about....

My goals for this week are to get back on track with my diet and exercise... Hopefully the EA Active still remembers who I am ;)

Good luck everyone!! LETS SHRINK FOR GOOD!!!

Totally Ticks me Off Tuesday...

**warning...swearing, bitching and moaning ahead...read following post at your own risk and please do not read out loud with children present... there is cursing and some things I say just aren't very 'motherly'....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED**

I know that most people look forward to Fridays, or Saturdays, not me. I look forward to TUESDAYS because it is the day I get to just let her rip with the crap that has been bugging me about the previous week.... I wish I could go full out like I'd really like to do, but out of respect for certain people *not sure why I am taking them or their feelings into consideration when they NEVER take mine into consideration, but what can I do right...* So here goes... be warned MAJOR complaining and negativity ahead...

  • If you GIVE SOMETHING TO SOMEONE... it is now their's to do with it whatever they'd like... this means they can give it away, sell it, or even burn it in their front yard and you 'shouldn't' get to say a single thing about it... you do not get to control what happens to items after they are no longer yours...
  • There is no excuse to be as mean and spiteful as some people have currently been... NO EXCUSE especially since the behavior hasn't really changed towards some people... pretty sure you are just using it as just that... an excuse. Well frankly... I am not doing it anyone... you hurt me, (or my kids) then I am gonna call ya out on it, by the way... look out.
  • I believe my grandfather taught me the lesson of "If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all".... I think this lesson should be passed on to a lot of people, I know that I could certainly use a little refresher
  • Only YOU can make you happy... no one else can.
I think that is enough for today :) I'll save some for next week :) HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE

the "controversial' Speech of President Obama

I am borrowing the following text from THIS SITE so if you'd like to read it in it's original context please feel free to do so there.... Below you will find the text of the speech that President Obama is going to speak tomorrow to our nation's children (K-12)... there has been ALOT of controversy about this speech and frankly after reading the text myself I am very confused by what would cause it... apparently some parents are afraid of their children being 'challenged' to pay attention and to get the most out of the education that is given to them... apparently some parents are afraid that their children are being 'exhorted' to paying attention and working hard... the speech is below... you can read it or you can choose not too... Up to you :) But I for one am thankful that my kindergartener is excited about "President Obama coming to her school on tv" *obviously Delainey's words not mine*... I myself issue the same challenge to my own children every day... :)

The prepared text of President Barack Obama's back-to-school address scheduled for Tuesdays, as released in advance by the White House:

OBAMA: Hello, everyone — how's everybody doing today? I'm here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we've got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through 12th grade. I'm glad you all could join us today.

I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it's your first day in a new school, so it's understandable if you're a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now, with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you're in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer, and you could've stayed in bed just a little longer this morning.

I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived in Indonesia for a few years, and my mother didn't have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday — at 4:30 in the morning.

Now I wasn't too happy about getting up that early. A lot of times, I'd fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I'd complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and say, "This is no picnic for me either, buster."

So I know some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I'm here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I'm here because I want to talk with you about your education and what's expected of all of you in this new school year.

Now I've given a lot of speeches about education. And I've talked a lot about responsibility.

I've talked about your teachers' responsibility for inspiring you, and pushing you to learn.

I've talked about your parents' responsibility for making sure you stay on track, and get your homework done, and don't spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with that Xbox.

I've talked a lot about your government's responsibility for setting high standards, supporting teachers and principals, and turning around schools that aren't working where students aren't getting the opportunities they deserve.

But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.

And that's what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education. I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself.

Every single one of you has something you're good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That's the opportunity an education can provide.

Maybe you could be a good writer — maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper — but you might not know it until you write a paper for your English class. Maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor — maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or a new medicine or vaccine — but you might not know it until you do a project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a senator or a Supreme Court justice, but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team.

And no matter what you want to do with your life — I guarantee that you'll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You're going to need a good education for every single one of those careers. You can't drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You've got to work for it and train for it and learn for it.

And this isn't just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. What you're learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future.

You'll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You'll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free. You'll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy.

We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems. If you don't do that — if you quit on school — you're not just quitting on yourself, you're quitting on your country.

Now I know it's not always easy to do well in school. I know a lot of you have challenges in your lives right now that can make it hard to focus on your schoolwork.

I get it. I know what that's like. My father left my family when I was two years old, and I was raised by a single mother who struggled at times to pay the bills and wasn't always able to give us things the other kids had. There were times when I missed having a father in my life. There were times when I was lonely and felt like I didn't fit in.

So I wasn't always as focused as I should have been. I did some things I'm not proud of, and got in more trouble than I should have. And my life could have easily taken a turn for the worse.

But I was fortunate. I got a lot of second chances and had the opportunity to go to college, and law school, and follow my dreams. My wife, our first lady Michelle Obama, has a similar story. Neither of her parents had gone to college, and they didn't have much. But they worked hard, and she worked hard, so that she could go to the best schools in this country.

Some of you might not have those advantages. Maybe you don't have adults in your life who give you the support that you need. Maybe someone in your family has lost their job, and there's not enough money to go around. Maybe you live in a neighborhood where you don't feel safe, or have friends who are pressuring you to do things you know aren't right.

But at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life — what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you've got going on at home — that's no excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude. That's no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. That's no excuse for not trying.

Where you are right now doesn't have to determine where you'll end up. No one's written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.

That's what young people like you are doing every day, all across America.

Young people like Jazmin Perez, from Roma, Texas. Jazmin didn't speak English when she first started school. Hardly anyone in her hometown went to college, and neither of her parents had gone either. But she worked hard, earned good grades, got a scholarship to Brown University, and is now in graduate school, studying public health, on her way to being Dr. Jazmin Perez.

I'm thinking about Andoni Schultz, from Los Altos, California, who's fought brain cancer since he was three. He's endured all sorts of treatments and surgeries, one of which affected his memory, so it took him much longer — hundreds of extra hours — to do his schoolwork. But he never fell behind, and he's headed to college this fall.

And then there's Shantell Steve, from my hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Even when bouncing from foster home to foster home in the toughest neighborhoods, she managed to get a job at a local health center; start a program to keep young people out of gangs; and she's on track to graduate high school with honors and go on to college.

Jazmin, Andoni and Shantell aren't any different from any of you. They faced challenges in their lives just like you do. But they refused to give up. They chose to take responsibility for their education and set goals for themselves. And I expect all of you to do the same. That's why today, I'm calling on each of you to set your own goals for your education — and to do everything you can to meet them. Your goal can be something as simple as doing all your homework, paying attention in class, or spending time each day reading a book. Maybe you'll decide to get involved in an extracurricular activity, or volunteer in your community. Maybe you'll decide to stand up for kids who are being teased or bullied because of who they are or how they look, because you believe, like I do, that all kids deserve a safe environment to study and learn. Maybe you'll decide to take better care of yourself so you can be more ready to learn. And along those lines, I hope you'll all wash your hands a lot, and stay home from school when you don't feel well, so we can keep people from getting the flu this fall and winter.

Whatever you resolve to do, I want you to commit to it. I want you to really work at it.

I know that sometimes, you get the sense from TV that you can be rich and successful without any hard work — that your ticket to success is through rapping or basketball or being a reality TV star, when chances are, you're not going to be any of those things.

But the truth is, being successful is hard. You won't love every subject you study. You won't click with every teacher. Not every homework assignment will seem completely relevant to your life right this minute. And you won't necessarily succeed at everything the first time you try.

That's OK. Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who've had the most failures. JK Rowling's first Harry Potter book was rejected twelve times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and he lost hundreds of games and missed thousands of shots during his career. But he once said, "I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

These people succeeded because they understand that you can't let your failures define you — you have to let them teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently next time. If you get in trouble, that doesn't mean you're a troublemaker, it means you need to try harder to behave. If you get a bad grade, that doesn't mean you're stupid, it just means you need to spend more time studying.

No one's born being good at things, you become good at things through hard work. You're not a varsity athlete the first time you play a new sport. You don't hit every note the first time you sing a song. You've got to practice. It's the same with your schoolwork. You might have to do a math problem a few times before you get it right, or read something a few times before you understand it, or do a few drafts of a paper before it's good enough to hand in.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength. It shows you have the courage to admit when you don't know something, and to learn something new. So find an adult you trust — a parent, grandparent or teacher; a coach or counselor — and ask them to help you stay on track to meet your goals.

And even when you're struggling, even when you're discouraged, and you feel like other people have given up on you — don't ever give up on yourself. Because when you give up on yourself, you give up on your country.

The story of America isn't about people who quit when things got tough. It's about people who kept going, who tried harder, who loved their country too much to do anything less than their best. It's the story of students who sat where you sit 250 years ago, and went on to wage a revolution and found this nation. Students who sat where you sit 75 years ago who overcame a Depression and won a world war; who fought for civil rights and put a man on the moon. Students who sat where you sit 20 years ago who founded Google, Twitter and Facebook and changed the way we communicate with each other.

So today, I want to ask you, what's your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make? What will a president who comes here in twenty or fifty or one hundred years say about what all of you did for this country?

Your families, your teachers, and I are doing everything we can to make sure you have the education you need to answer these questions. I'm working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books, equipment and computers you need to learn. But you've got to do your part too. So I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don't let us down — don't let your family or your country or yourself down. Make us all proud. I know you can do it.

Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America.

30 Day EA Active Challenge- Day... whoops

30-Day EAS Challenge with the Sisterhood!

Honesty is always the best policy (well of course unless you are dealing with family and some of the drama that I have been)... so I am going to be honest... I was scheduled for a day off with the EA Active on Wednesday... and well I kind of forgot to go back to it Thursday, Friday and Saturday... BUT I promise I will be turn it on again tonight...

In my defense we have been busted butt getting our house organized and such, so I think I probably did more working out doing that then if I had done the challenge...

Sorry everyone... but I promise I am back in the game!!

Shelby and Avery's First Day of Preschool

Today was Shelby and Avery's first day of preschool... it went really well from where I was standing... It did get off to a rocky start because there was some anxiety, but overall everything worked out well and the girls are excited to go back tomorrow :) They LOVED the bus by the way *this was a HUGE fear for me*

Delainey of course had to help drop them off... it was cute, but it was also funny to see how BIG she looked compared to all the preschool kids considering she was just there last year :)

Weigh in Wednesday SFG Week 1

Shrink for Good with the Sisterhood!

We started the Shrink for Good Challenge on August 30th. This is an amazing partnership with Weight Watchers and Also Share our Strength. You can learn more about it by visiting the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans HERE
For my Sunday weigh in I weighed in at 245.6lbs and today I am at 243.6. This is a loss of two pounds since Sunday... don't be concerned by this 'quick' loss as there are several attributing factors such as water weight, previous sunflower seed consumption etc... I know this is just water weigh and know that in order to reach my true goals I am going to have to work at it.
For my personal goals this week I would like to:
  1. eat my 5 servings of vegetables each day
  2. exercise and follow my 30 day EA Active Challenge *Learn more about this Sistherhood challenge HERE*
  3. Get more sleep... this is a big one. With us all adjusting to new schedules (I have 3 kids in school now, plus my own schedule for classes etc) sleep is always the first thing to go for this mama of 4 busy kids -- Do I get to count my husband as my 5th child??? I mean seriously sometimes his 'schedule/tasks' consume more of my time than the kids...or maybe it is just that they listen better.
  4. Take a few hours each day for me... whether it be during exercise, doing school work or just a few moments before bed... I need to take care of myself or all else is going to fail.
  5. DRINK MORE WATER.
  6. Follow points w/ Weight Watchers
  7. Journal food and exercise.

I think this are attainable goals for me this week... You can do them too! Come on... you know you can :) Good luck everyone... and remember lets LOSE FOR GOOD!!!

30 Day EA Active Challenge - Day 2

30-Day EAS Challenge with the Sisterhood!
Well today was day two... and it's done. I did it... and let me tell you my thighs are KILLING ME... Pretty certain that combo of a warm/hot shower and some Advil will make this mama sleep well tonight. I had messaged my friend earlier today that I was in too much pain to do day 2, she of course told me it was a "good" pain and that it would be worth it... not so sure about this pain being a "good" pain, but I know that it was most certainly worth it.

It took me just over 30 minutes to do this section of the challenge and I burned 259 calories :) I am just thankful that tomorrow is a rest day :)

Good luck everyone!
