This past week has been one roller coaster ride after another for our family. Last week Thursday was had a much anticipated appointment for Shelby and after the one we left feeling like for once someone was listening, we felt that for once some saw the same things we did (or in this case even more) and we were able to come up with a plan of action to help Shelby succeed rather than just continue to exist with worries, doubt and fear as a good portion of her day. (this was the elation). Please forgive us for not fully sharing the diagnosis that Shelby has received, while this is a family blog and we do share a lot of stuff that other people may not normally publically share Chad and I have agreed that this is part of Shelby's story that really is a need to know basis. The new words, letters etc that now are in the 'description' of Shelby are not ours to share. We know that you will respect this...thank you.
After sharing my feelings of extreme joy over the way that our appointment had gone, I contacted Shelby's school to request information about the IEP process and was given the response of " I'll get back to you" about 3 hours later I received a call from the school asking "Will next Friday at 9:30am work for you to have a Kid Talk meeting?"(here is the shock)... my first response was "For what?" and was given the answer of "Well the staff and I would like to meet with you to explain to you the reasons that Shelby will never qualify for an IEP"....(here's were anger comes in and stayed for awhile) my response was "excuse me?" and I was then told "Well if that time works for you we can talk more at the meeting"... I of course agreed with the time for the meeting not caring particularly what else was already on my plate because this was far more important.
I spent the better part of Thursday evening and a good part of Friday last week being pissed off... not going to coat it. I was angry because again Shelby was been shot down before things were even fully looked at. Again she was getting the shaft before anyone was looking at the WHOLE picture/story. All they see is a kid that is a brat that they don't understand...BUT because she is smart and her behaviors etc are not effecting her education they refuse to look into anything else because she isn't FAILING... Define Failing to a mother who's child comes home every day from school saying her teachers hate her, explain failing to a mother who while consoling said child day after day has another child come into the room and say "no mommy, they really don't like her", explain to that mother how her child is NOT FAILING by be scared to go to school every day, explain to a mother how her child is NOT FAILING when her child can actually maker herself vomit so she can avoid getting on the bus....
When I woke up Saturday I was motivated... I was motivated to find all the information that I could. I was motivated to fight for Shelby and to be her voice when no one else wanted to listen, I was motivated to get what needed to be done done. This mama was on a mission.... and boy did I kick some butt on the stuff I found.
While the week went on, with the motivation came anxiety and fear. I began to over think things, I began to doubt myself as a mother, as an advocate. This then brought on the stress because I was not willing to accept the things that I was thinking.
Today started with alot of anxiety... but then I went to the meeting. I shared my side, the staff at the school shared theirs. We may not have been on the same page when we all first started the meeting, but by the end we were. One of the biggest obstacles was that Shelby's teachers had NO IDEA of how she was feeling when she was coming home. They said that she did not show any of the behaviors that I was sharing with them while at school. So we have come to an agreement. At this time Shelby does not qualify for an IEP because she is not 'technically' failing (there are no actually grading standards in the program she is in and she is making great improvements etc) she does need some assistance. We worked out a plan that I feel will not only benefit Shelby but probably her whole class as well.
So for this mama... getting everyone on the same page and having open lines of communication was a MAJOR victory for us. We have an entire team working for Shelby and I am happy to say that for the first time in a long time... I feel good about her and her preschool situation.

Weigh-in Wednesday Rethink Your Shrink Week 5
It's Wednesday so you know what that means...WEIGH-IN DAY over at the Sisterhood. What do you mean I didn't weigh in last week? Right right... I completely spaced it out that week and realized it after I was already laying down in bed so I said that I would do it in the morning and...well yea it didn't get done. But I am glad to report that even though I took a week off of reporting I kept up with my goals and stayed on track. Here is the running total of my results to this point:
Starting Weight: 239.4
Starting BMI: 41.1
1/6 Weight: 237
1/6 BMI: 40.7
1/13 Weight 235.2
1/13 BMI: 40.1
This week's numbers:
Weight 232.2
BMI: 39.6
That means that I am down 3 lbs since the previous weigh in and down 7.2 pounds for the challenge. I am pretty excited about that. But I think I am more excited about the fact that I have lost 1.5 points off of my BMI, and I am in a smaller jean size than I have been in some time. So I would say that I can safely say good bye to the 240's FOREVER :)
Here are my goals from the previous week and my status on them:
- Continue on with my Weight Watchers. DID IT
- Drink my water DID IT
- Eat breakfast DID IT 4/7 days
- No late night snacking except for tomorrow night DID REALLY GOOD WITH THIS

"not ME" Monday
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
Ok, so I have kind of been in a funk the past few weeks... there is alot going on in our lives and for some reason it just keeps coming harder and faster for us with no signs of slowing down, but as a family we will get through it TOGETHER and I really need to shake the funk so here goes :)
This past weekend was bit of an interesting time, we had two extra kids (ages 11 and 3) here for both Saturday and Sunday. It was really fun... the two extra kids really didn't add to the 'work' of it but they certainly added to the noise level :) So it certainly was NOT me who in all her wisdom got the kids all bundled up and booted them outside on Saturday (HEY...it was SUPER nice that day). It was also not me who threatened to lock the door if one more kid came in the house for no reason other than to track snow all over my kitchen/entry floor (THANK YOU TILE)... nope not me. I would never have done that to my own children and I certainly would not have done it to someone else's.
It most certain was NOT ME who kept telling herself all day Saturday that the movies needed to be returned to the rental place only to see them still on the entertainment center on Sunday morning...nope not me.
It was not me who was getting REALLY annoyed with my husband who was watching the football game last night for getting loud and un-ruley only to join him towards the end... Good game Vikings... and Congratulations to the Saints on your first ever trip to the SuperBowl...
Being a 'good sport' I congratulated several of my friends last night while our house was in mourning on their win and their upcoming trip to the Super Bowl, I am big in being a good sport and firmly believe that sore losers are not nice...so it certainly was not me who got upset with the Saint fans who instantly started telling me how the "Vikings choked again" or how team supporters of other teams (who didn't even make it that far) couldn't say enough bad things about the Vikings... it really hurt my heart, and made me think about the things that we are teaching our children by things like this... I know that winning is important but I also think that teaching people to be GOOD SPORTS on both sides of the win is even more important...
Well that's my not me Monday...
Oh wait... it certainly was NOT ME who just put two cookie sheets into the oven rather than wash them ... lol

A phone call from last Saturday...
It was about 9:30am when the phone rang last Saturday, it went something like this:
Me- "Hello"
Aunt- "Ahhh... Did Delainey happen to have a loose tooth?"
Me- "Kind of..... why?"
Aunt: "Which tooth"
Me: "Why...." starting to get worried
Aunt: "Just curious"
Me: "The one on her bottom, center left"
Aunt: "Are you sure it wasn't the one on the right?"
Me: "I am most certain that it was the one on the left. What the hell happened? "
Aunt: "Well Delainey was blowing up her air bat and I pushed on it to blow the air back into her face, well then Delainey's tooth came out"
Delainey in the background "Nooooo... You pulled it"...
Aunt: "Well I kind of pulled on it but not that hard"
Me: " It must have been fairly hard to pull out the tooth that wasn't even loose"...
Long story short, our baby girl is now down one tooth and one dollar richer, although a cousin of her's told her today that HER tooth fairy gave her $5...

Weigh-in Wednesday: Rethink Your Shrink Week 2
Rethink Your Shrink is about changing from the inside. It’s about looking back so that you can move forward by changing the present. We will re-evaluate our eating habits, our patterns, our obstacles and our activity levels. We will take with us what worked in 2009 and dispose of what didn’t.
Today is the beginning of the second week of the new and amazing Rethink Your Shrink Challenge over at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans, if you haven't joined us yet you still can. It is amazing and fun. I have been a member of the sisterhood for just over a year now and I couldn't be happier with the knowledge that I have gotten and the friendships that I have been blessed with. Here are my goals from last week:
- Get back on track with Weight Watchers Online, *BTW they are running a promotional thing right now were if you sign up you get your registration fees waived* DID IT!!! And have been doing REALLY well with my journaling/tracking
- Start drinking more water. I want to drink at least 200 ozs per day. This would mean I have to fill my water bottle 5 times, and I know that I can do it. So if you happen to live near me and you see me without my water bottle... could you make a point to point it out *Hey... I never said I could do this all on my own* ROCKED IT... I didn't even need to be reminded to bring my water bottle when I left the house.
- Start the Wii Active 30 day challenge again. When I was doing it before I was doing really well with it, I just have to get back on track. I didn't do this part :( I did however at least do some major cardio around the house. I made certain that I walked up and down my stairs at least 50 times/day.
- Start going to the Gym again. This could take some serious work since my kids are not that fond of the child watch program, but I will have to figure something out... I went twice...
- No late night snacking except for my "Thursdays at Fridays" and even then I want to keep it light and no so unhealthy I am doing awesome with this... I did have one night where I had a small bowl of popcorn but it had no butter or salt so I don't think it would too bad of a cheat.
- Take it easy on the 'beverages' tomorrow, New Years Eve. Did you know the kind of hidden calories that are snuck into those drinks?? I mean it is crazy. I did ok...
Here are my numbers from last week:
Starting Weight: 239.4 lbs
Starting BMI: 41.1
Starting Body Fat %: 53.9%
Here are this week's numbers:
Weight: 237 lbs.
BMI : 40.7
Body Fat: 51.1%
Week's Results:
DOWN 2.4 lbs
DOWN .4 for my BMI
DOWN 2.8 % of Body Fat
Here are this weeks goals:
- Continue to track/journal my food using the Weight Watchers Online Tools.
- Drink 200 ozs of water per day
- Exercise at least 3 times per week
- In addition to my 3 times a week of exercise I would like to start the Couch to 5K program back up.
- No late night snacking except for my Thursday night out w/ friends and make healthy choices while doing so.
- REMEMBER to eat breakfast...

True Confessions Tuesday
- I did rather well for my New Years Eve. I went out with my husband, cousin and her husband for dinner... made good choices and only had two drinks....well then after dinner I joined up with some other friends and while I didn't make any more bad food choices I did have a few more drinks and a couple sodas.
- Yesterday I ate 3 chocolate truffles that a
evilgood friend gave me the recipe for after our annual cookie exchange night. She stated the night of the cookie exchange that the truffles were 100 calories each....thankfully I made mine much smaller so they were only 50 calories each... but still it was a bad choice. - I had a Venti Pumpkin Spice Latte today from Starbucks and forgot to ask for skim milk and for them to hold the whip cream... 11 points down the drain for a single cup of coffee... BUT I did go for a pretty hellish walk (Just as my friend she was there) and ending up 'earning' 9 activity points so it all turned out ok in my book. I did journal the points and have not gone over my points... in fact I still have 5 points left and since I promised myself that I would not eat past 7pm I am still in the black for points...although it is a BAD BAD thing to not eat your points each day.
- I admit that I bought some not to healthy crackers today at the store and that I am not allowing myself to eat them (the appropriate serving and journaling the points of course) until after Weigh in Wednesday because I KNOW they have a lot of salt...
- I was able to drink most of the water that I commited myself to drinking... I have also visited more public restrooms than I would like to admit because of this commitment.
Totally Ticks Me Off Tuesday *Kitchen Edition*
Since I am trying to not be so 'negative' about things in my life, but I still like to bitch and moan I thought I'd try something new with Totally Ticks me off Tuesday (which I stole from my friend MidWestMama ), so here it is. Totally Ticks me off Tuesday Kitchen Edition in which I discuss the things that tick me off about my kitchen and the work that it requires.
- It really ticks me off that no matter how clean most of the dishes are BEFORE they go into my dishwasher 90% of them still come out dirty, spotty or just plain gross. I am in serious need of a new one and Santa totally let
methe kids down onmytheir Christmas wish. - It really ticks me off that even if the dishwasher worked properly and I didn't have to make certain no dishes touched to get them clean that each meal for my family would still require me to run the dishwasher two times.
- It really ticks me off that I was dumb enough to buy pots and pans that were 1) a hell of a lot of money 2)are already starting to fail (in the non-stick department) and 3) need to be washed by hand
- It really ticks me off when people take left overs for lunch (well that part doesn't) and then bring the containers home and just set them on the sink rather than rinsing them out either at work after they ate or at home once they take them out of the lunch bags.
- Another thing that ticks me off is that no matter what cleaner I use on my stainless steel appliances they look awful... BIG MISTAKE... they are messy
- Also another cleaning ticks me off... my 'glass top' stove... another thing that no matter what I do it is messy and looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months...

"not me" Monday....
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
So here goes....
It most certainly was not me that didn't understand that 'concentrated' laundry detergent it not the same as high efficiency laundry detergent.
It most certainly was not me who for the past 2 weeks has been using NON- high efficiency laundry detergent in her washing machine, and since that wasn't me it most certainly was not me yelling and screaming at the washing machine when it was making a HORRID noise for the past few days... the screaming did not include "You've got to be kidding me... this machine is only 3 years old" and "What else could possibly go wrong in my perfect life"... nope not me. *BTW, it took me running the washing machine 3 times on a regular wash cycle and 2 cycles of the 'clean' cycle to get all the gunk and build up of the non-he detergent out of my machine...*
It most certainly was not me that yelled "HOOOORAYYYYY" when my uncle stopped by to pick up my 6 year old to be taken to school this morning after a long winter break.
It was most certainly not me who forgot to set her alarm last night and was racing around like a chicken with her head cut off trying to get the 2 four year olds ready for the bus in only 14 minutes... *We made it btw*
Oh...and it most certainly was not me who just for fun sat on the couch just a short time ago with a small plate with 3 oreo truffles on it and ate them thinking "I wonder if this is what my husband thinks I am doing right now".... *insert evil laugh here*... Nope... it was me.. I will GLADLY proclaim I did that.... :)
Happy Week everyone!!!
Makes My Monday...
I have been following THIS blog for awhile and I thought I'd give this a try. I will still be participating in my new found love of "NOT me Monday" that was created by MckMama, but I thought I have so much going on that I'd just take a break for myself and do them both :) So here is the 'jist' of Makes My Monday....
New to Makes My Monday? Share on your blog what warms your week's beginning this first Monday of 2010! Post a picture and tell the tale. Then be sure to link back here to share in the web-wide Monday fun. Don't forget to leave a comment for others...comments are always Monday makers!
My Makes My Monday is that three of my four children will be going back to school after winter break. I love them dearly but the past few days it has been enough of the family love... granted we have been pretty much trapped in the house because of 1)a blizzard and 2)extreme cold temperatures. But here is a picture of my amazing and glorious children ...
