"Motherhood brings as much joy as ever, but it still brings boredom, exhaustion, and sorrow too. Nothing else ever will make you as happy or as sad, as proud or as tired, for nothing is quite as hard as helping a person develop his own individuality especially while you struggle to keep your own." -- Marguerite Kelly and Elia Parsons

A March for Babies Challenge...
BUT please know that we understand if you can't...but please continue to come and visit our blog :)
Kiss Me, I'm Shrinking Week 1
It is time for another challenge over at The Sisterhood for the Shrinking Jeans so please feel free to stop over and join the fun. I have commited myself to this new challenge. It runs from today until March 18, 2009, which is roughly 3 weeks.
I am starting this challenge at the heaviest that I have been in 3 years and that is 252.9 lbs. Gross huh? I have already committed myself to losing 5 lbs for this challenge. To do that here are the things that I am going to do:
- Join Weight Watchers, and all that goes with it.
- exercise 3 days a week (at the gym)
- exercise at home the days I don't get to the gym
Wish me luck my friends!!

Shelby is home....
Monday, February 23, 2009
WWF Smack down--- Krumwiede style
Boy... can't wait till they are older....
On the upside, she should be fairly calm the
next few days because of her surgery tomorrow.
Shelby will be having her tonsils and adenoids removed
tomorrow am...wish us luck!
Not Me Monday...
Well it is that time of the week again in which I create a list of things that I most certainly did not do, here goes :)
- I most certainly did not try to convince my husband (and several of our friends) that since I shopped the sales *awesome sales by the way* that I SAVED money rather than having spent it
- I certainly did not stay out much later than needed during a trip to the grocery store, just so that I could be certain that bedtime was completed before I came home.
- I most certainly did not hide a bunch of laundry baskets *holding CLEAN laundry* into my bedroom when I had friends coming over rather than taking the time to put the clothes away.
- I most certainly am not KINDA of looking forward to my 3 year old getting her tonsils and adenoids out because I know that it will calm her down a bit.
- I most certainly did not leave the house an hour before I needed to (by myself) and go and enjoy a nice quiet lunch all by myself at a resturant that because we are a family of 6 we can no longer eat at as a whole family...
Let's hear your NOT ME MONDAY PEOPLE :)

A consumer review...
Well we thought we would try the Prime Steer in Mandan... well long story short NASTY!!!
Chad orders the 10oz prime rib w/ wood roasted chicken . His prime rib was probably 9ozs of fat and his chicken which was supposed to be ROASTED looked boiled. Our plates were SWIMMING in what looked like chicken broth. On top of everything else his entire meal was STONE COLD.
I ordered the sirloin and roasted chicken. I like my steak medium rare and what I got was a charbroiled piece of coal w/ a RAW center. I also ordered the same chicken as Chad and got the same boiled mess.
My aunt ordered her steak and the first time it was WELL done, even though she ordered her steak medium. When she sent it back she got a medium well steak but wasn't in the mood to send it back a second time.
My mom ordered the ribs which could easily have been confused with shoe leather dipped in burnt BBQ sauce.
All four of us ordered the augratin potatoes which were cold and swimming in greasy something...they were stone cold and nasty.
Long story short... we wont' be going back!

Fine For Valentine's FINAL WEIGH IN
- I am in fact an emotional eater
- when I pay attention to eating I do actually lose weight
- i can lose weight IF I try
- I have to WANT to lose weight
As many of you know, I have been going through a lot this past month and instead of those new challenges that have been placed in front of me being a motivator, I have used them as an excuse...well no more!
So here is to the NEW challenge that the Shrinking Jeans crew is going to come up with and know that I will be motivated to continue this time...
Congratualtions to all my sisters (and brothers) who did this challange and WAY TO GO TO YOU ALL who has success...ESPECIALLY my good friend Kate who more than achieved her goal but surpassed it! I am so proud of you Kate!!!
Looking back over my personal blog (which is private) I realized that I have GAINED over 20lbs (23.9 to be exact) since roughly this time last year. I mean come the frick on... all my friends are losing weight, you'd think that would be an inspiration...but no it seems that I am having even more self-distructive behavior... BUT in the same sense, how can I teach my children to be happy with who you are when I am not even happy with what/who I am... thought for the week I guess, but hopefully I will be able to get my fat ass off the couch and onto a healthier me...

I had to play the role of a bratty teenager in one of my classes and I most certainly DID NOT do REALLY well at it. In fact one of my classmates did not ask me if I was really 15…
I most certainly did not have a cookie bouqet delivered to my husband for Valentine’s day regaurdless of how much he hate the holiday… after all I had it delivered on WEDNESDAY not Valentine’s day…
I most certainly DID NOT receive a beautiful arrangement of flowers and a uber romantic card from my husband for Valentine’s day…. OH WAIT… I really didn’t get anything for Valentine’s day
I most certainly did not enjoy doing laundry in the quite basement all by myself…

Friday the 13th...
As someone who was born on Halloween, you can imagine that I am a believer in all these 'myths' and such but just for fun, I thought I'd post the 13 fun facts about 13 on the 1st of three Friday 13ths in 2009. You can find the completely story that I took these from HERE
Here are 13 more facts about the infamous day, courtesy of Fernsler and some of our own research:
1. The British Navy built a ship named Friday the 13th. On its maiden voyage, the vessel left dock on a Friday the 13th, and was never heard from again.
2. The ill-fated Apollo 13 launched at 13:13 CST on Apr. 11, 1970. The sum of the date's digits (4-11-70) is 13 (as in 4+1+1+7+0 = 13). And the explosion that crippled the spacecraft occurred on April 13 (not a Friday). The crew did make it back to Earth safely, however.
3. Many hospitals have no room 13, while some tall buildings skip the 13th floor.
4. Fear of Friday the 13th - one of the most popular myths in science - is called paraskavedekatriaphobia as well as friggatriskaidekaphobia. Triskaidekaphobia is fear of the number 13.
5. Quarterback Dan Marino wore No. 13 throughout his career with the Miami Dolphins. Despite being a superb quarterback (some call him one of the best ever), he got to the Super Bowl just once, in 1985, and was trounced 38-16 by the San Francisco 49ers and Joe Montana (who wore No. 16 and won all four Super Bowls he played in).
6. Butch Cassidy, notorious American train and bank robber, was born on Friday, April 13, 1866.
7. Fidel Castro was born on Friday, Aug. 13, 1926.
8. President Franklin D. Roosevelt would not travel on the 13th day of any month and would never host 13 guests at a meal. Napoleon and Herbert Hoover were also triskaidekaphobic, with an abnormal fear of the number 13.
9. Superstitious diners in Paris can hire a quatorzieme, or professional 14th guest.
10. Mark Twain once was the 13th guest at a dinner party. A friend warned him not to go. "It was bad luck," Twain later told the friend. "They only had food for 12."
11. Woodrow Wilson considered 13 his lucky number, though his experience didn't support such faith. He arrived in Normandy, France on Friday, Dec. 13, 1918, for peace talks, only to return with a treaty he couldn't get Congress to sign. (The ship's crew wanted to dock the next day due to superstitions, Fernsler said.) He toured the United States to rally support for the treaty, and while traveling, suffered a near-fatal stroke.
12. The number 13 suffers from its position after 12, according to numerologists who consider the latter to be a complete number - 12 months in a year, 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 labors of Hercules, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 apostles of Jesus, 12 days of Christmas and 12 eggs in a dozen.
13. The seals on the back of a dollar bill include 13 steps on the pyramid, 13 stars above the eagle's head, 13 war arrows in the eagle's claw and 13 leaves on the olive branch. So far there's been no evidence tying these long-ago design decisions to the present economic situation.

Pray for Me...Pray for others
We participate in "Pray for Me... Pray for Others" on the Riggs Family Blog. Check out their blog to add your prayer request.
Let me state that my feelings have nothing to do with the fact that the woman is not married (that would be fairly hypocritical since I have several family members who are single mothers…my own mother included), or even the fact that she had to seek infertility treatment to conceive her children (again hypocritical in my OWN case)….
My issue lies with the fact that on each attempt of this woman’s invitro procedures her doctors allowed for her to be implanted with SIX embryos… this is ridiculous to me. 6 fetuses is a medical nightmare, much less 8. Many couple who have had high order multiples (Jon and Kate are my example for this) have said “What happened to us is a medical nightmare…we sought assistance to have ONE child”… and in their cases they used follicular stimulation drugs and IUI, (which is different then IVF which is when a woman’s eggs are removed from her body and fertilized with sperm and then the embryos are put back into the woman’s uterus via a small catheter).
IVF is ‘supposed’ to be the answer to the medical nightmare of high order multiples…. And this is because most clinics will only return 2 (some times 3 embryos depending on the age of mother/quality etc…there are several factors) fertilized embryos back into the uterus….
This woman put her children (and herself for that matter) in danger because of her want to be a mother… me stating that can also be seen as somewhat hypocritical since after developing preeclampsia with Delainey, Chad and I made the choice to have just one more child, and ended up pregnant with twins…and during my pregnancy with the twins I developed HELLP syndrome. .. this was a VERY scary thing to happen. Our girls were delivered via emergency c-section (I actually had to be put under for the procedure because of how sick I was) at 34 weeks gestation… I coded on the operating table, and the doctors couldn’t pump blood into my body fast enough to make up for how fast I was losing it…. Our girls struggled with different issues for the first year of their life (while minor compared to some premature infants….RSV, acid reflux, failure to thrive, feeding issues, sleep issues, multiple ear infections, delays in motor skills etc) and they were born at 5lbs each at 34 weeks…
When I say that I certainly am not saying that these children are not capable of living ‘normal’ lives…heck my niece and nephew (www.caringbridge.org/visit/kellenandsheakrumwiede ) are wonderful examples of 29 weeker preemies who have not only survived but thrived and surpassed a lot of the ‘normal’ things set for your ‘average’ 3 year old…. And as a special needs parent myself, I would rather have my child with the problems rather than not at all…but this whole situations just breaks my heart.
But like I said… my issue is with knowingly setting your children up for a battle that they may not have needed.
Frankly I don’t care if this woman wants to have a million children (well ok.. I would care if she wanted to have a million), everyone has a different need/desire to be a mother…and I honestly don’t care if she needs to use fertility treatments to achieve her family… but I do have a problem with the ethics involved in the medical treatment that this woman received…
And don’t even get me started on the fact that this woman has no job, and her support system is her father (according to new reports her mother wants to wash her hands of the whole situation), and has no health insurance for her children…. But this woman has FOURTEEN CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 8…. I have 4 kids 5 and under and most days I want to pull my hair out (and that is with a husband (who works full time), a mom, aunt, grandparents …a large family support system to help me out daily)…
I also have to point out that in the past companies (formula, diapers etc) have given donations in situations as this, but from what has been reported this has not happened this time… I think our society as a whole is upset about this entire situation...and honestly I think that is a good thing. We as a society have to keep ourselves in check because we all knew that the day would come when science would be far more advanced then the laws/ethics and this case is a very good example of this.
In closing…all I can say is that these precious miracles children (all 14 of them) are certainly in my prayers and I hope that this woman realizes the blessings she has been given and enjoys them to the fullest extent…
Rant done…Thanks for 'listening'

Laughter lives
This post is part of "Laughter Lives! Tuesday" on the Riggs Family Blog. Check our their blog to read everyone else's "Laughter Lives!" posts.I saw this on a blog that I frequent and I figured...what the heck, I caved to the pressure of the "not me Monday", so I may as well at least get to laugh at myself on Tuesdays right??
Sad day for Motorcross fans...
FOR THE WHOLE AP STORY CLICK HEREJorge Ramirez, chief of the intensive care unit at Calderon Hospital where Lusk was taken, said the motocross racer suffered severe brain damage and a possible spinal cord injury.
Lusk won a gold medal at the 2008 X Games. He was injured Saturday night when he failed to complete a full rotation while attempting a Hart Attack backflip and slammed headfirst into the dirt. Lusk crashed in almost identical fashion in the freestyle semifinals at the 2007 X Games but was not hurt.
He had a successful 2008 season, winning Freestyle gold at the X Games and silver in Best Trick when he landed the first double-grab Hart Attack backflip. He won a bronze helmet in Freestyle at the Moto X World Championships in his hometown of San Diego.
Ramirez said Lusk died with his parents and his wife, Lauren, at his side.
“He was in a medicine-induced coma as a protective measure, and the medicine was being reduced to see how his organism responded,” he said. “That didn’t mean he was going to wake up. He was in shock and that got worse last night, until he stopped responding and entered into cardiac and respiratory failure.”
Lusk lived in Temecula, Calif.

Shelby and Avery 3 year check-ups
Shelby is 28.9lbs and 36 1/4 inches tall
Avery is 28.8lbs and 35 inches tall.
The nurse who was measuring them made each of the girls get on the scale 4 different times because she thought Avery just HAD to weigh more then Shelby.... poor kiddos.
They each got two shots (we are on a delayed shot schedule so they are finally current to where most 2 year olds are) and will not have to get anymore shots until their kindergarten ready appointment.
The girls are doing well developmentally. They are doing what they should and for the first time our regular pediatrician just said "good job see you next year"....
Shelby will be getting her tonsils and adnoids removed on Tuesday, February 24th. She also has her first OT screening for her SPD/SID on Friday so we will let you know more after those happen.
But over all they are doing well!!

Mothers Lie
Mothers Lie
By Lori Borgman
Expectant mothers waiting for a newborn's arrival say they don't carewhatsex the baby is. They just want to have ten fingers and ten toes.Mothers lieEvery mother wants so much more. She wants a perfectly healthy baby with a round head, rosebud lips, buttonnose, beautiful eyes and satin skin. She wants a baby so gorgeous that people will pity the Gerber babyfor beingflat-out ugly. She wants a baby that will roll over, sit up and take those firststepsright on schedule (according to the baby development chart on page 57,column two).Every mother wants a baby that can see, hear, run, jump and fireneurons bythe billions. She wants a kid that can smack the ball out of the park and do toepointsthat are the envy of the entire ballet class.Call it greed if you want, but a mother wants what a mother wants. Some mothers get babies with something more.Maybe you're one who got a baby with a condition you couldn'tpronounce, aspine that didn't fuse, a missing chromosome or a palate that didn'tclose. The doctor's words took your breath away.It was just like the time at recess in the fourth grade when youdidn't seethe kick ball coming, and it knocked the wind right out of you. Some of you left the hospital with a healthy bundle, then, months, evenyears later, took him in for a routine visit, or scheduled him for acheckup, and crashed head first into a brick wall as you bore thebrunt ofdevastating news.It didn't seem possible. That didn't run in your family.Could this really be happening in your lifetime? There's no such thing as a perfect body.Everybody will bear something at some time or another.Maybe the affliction will be apparent to curious eyes, or maybe itwill beunseen, quietly treated with trips to the doctor, therapy or surgery.Mothers of children with disabilities live the limitations with them.Frankly, I don't know how you do it.Sometimes you mothers scare me.How you lift that kid in and out of the wheelchair twenty times a day.How you monitor tests, track medications, and serve as the gatekeeperto ahundred specialists yammering in your ear.I wonder how you endure the clichés and the platitudes, the well-intentionedsouls explaining how God is at work when you've occasionallyquestioned ifGod is on strike.I even wonder how you endure schmaltzy columns like this one-salutingyou,painting you as hero and saint, when you know you're ordinary. You snap, you bark, you bite. You didn't volunteer for this, you didn't jump up and down in themotherhoodline yelling,"Choose me, God. Choose me! I've got what it takes."You're a woman who doesn't have time to step back and put things inperspective, so let me do it for you. From where I sit, you're way ahead ofthe pack. You've developed the strength of the draft horse while holding ontothedelicacy of a daffodil. You have a heart that melts like chocolate in a glove box in July,counter-balanced against the stubbornness of an Ozark mule. You are the mother, advocate and protector of a child with adisability. You're a neighbor, a friend, a woman I pass at church and my sister-in-law.You're a wonder.
